The Manifesto

Build the Africa you want to live in.

Reveal · Connect · Propel

We are told Africa is a continent of the future. We prefer the present. The skills already exist, in people nothing prepares to make them count, in territories few schemes take seriously.

Ubuntu University exists for that: to reveal what each person carries, to connect people to one another, to propel what they decide to build. We do not hand out diplomas. We manufacture proof.

The Ubuntu philosophy
Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu.

I am because we are

I am because we are. That sentence is not a pleasant formula, it is a method. It says no skill is worth anything outside the collective that puts it to work, and no individual success holds for long if it makes nobody else grow.

Three practical consequences follow. You learn by doing, with others, on real cases: ten per cent theory, ninety per cent practice. You build with people rather than persuading them alone. And you start from what you already have — your resources, your network, your territory — instead of waiting for ideal means that never come.

The five values

What holds us up.

Ubuntu

People and community as the ground of every action

Ethical leadership

Serve first, lead second

Frugal innovation

Create more with less — constraint frees creativity

Collective intelligence

Building together outweighs individual expertise

Intellectual sovereignty

Root and open

Rooting our thinking in African realities while remaining open to the world.
Person · Venture · Impact

From the person to the community.

The Person

Everything starts with a person and what they carry without yet being able to name it. We work first on clear sight of oneself: strengths, values, blind spots. Without that, no technical skill finds anywhere to settle.

Their Venture

A person revealed needs something to work on. A venture, a placement, a real problem to solve. That is where a skill becomes visible and defensible, because it produces something others can examine.

Their Impact

A venture that changes nothing around it stays an exercise. We measure what moves in the organisation, in the territory, in the lives of the people concerned. That is the only level at which the Ubuntu promise can be checked.

Every individual is a blessing for humanity.
